Gladon all over the Canaries

Gladon scores a hatrick against Norwich

Then comes ferocious fightback.

Wolves 4 (Gladon 7,9, 49-pen, John 47)

Norwich City 3 (Jayesimi 55, 65, McIntyre 90+3)

After going four goals up shortly after the break, with Paul Gladon notching a hat-trick, the Molineux Under 23s then had to withstand a ferocious fightback by a Norwich side that refused to throw in the towel.

In the game’s first attack. Jon Flatt had to dive to take a deflected effort from Norwich’s Glenn Middleton before Gladon took a hand in the proceedings.

In the seventh minute he steered Daniel Armstrong’s low cross past City keeper Ben Killip and just two minutes later the unmarked Dutch striker took advantage of a mix up in the visiting defence to score an easy second.

Joe Delacoe went in search of a third but his shot on the run went straight to Killip.

After a poor start Norwich began to make inroads on the home rearguard with Dialling Jaiyesimi in particular looking a force to be reckoned with. On 20 minutes he held off a couple of challenges before hitting a fierce shot that bounced away off Ryan Leak.

Then Jaiyesimi, Louis McIntosh and Benny Ashley-Seal all had goalbound shots in quick succession with a defender throwing his body in the way on each occasion.

Killip just beat Gladon to an underhit backpass and at the other end Conor Levingston got in the way of another well struck shot from Jaiyesimi.

An excellent piece of work in midfield by Nicu Carnat ended with him putting Gladon through on goal but Killip had spotted the danger and he ran out to just beat the striker to the ball on the edge of the box.

Half-Time: Wolves 2 Norwich 0

Within two minutes of the restart Wolves went three up as Cameron John forced the ball home at the near post after a searching cross from Carnat.

And when Ray Grant tripped Gladon in Wolves’ next attack, it was four as Gladon picked himself up and sent Killip the wrong way from the spot.

On the hour mark, Norwich made two substitutions and just five minutes later one of them, Jamal Lewis, provided the cross for Jaiyesimi to bullet home a header.

Both goals then survived powerful headers – Wolves when Jaiyesimi was a foot too high after a cross from Grant, and City when Carnat’s effort was too close to Killip.

With time running out Grant’s 23-yard free-kick bounced back off the bar before, in the third of the six added minutes, Flatt conceded a penalty when he took Connor McGradles legs with McIntosh tucking away the spot kick.

In a nerve wracking finale, Michee Efete hit an angled drive that was very close to giving the Canaries a share of the spoils.
