Rayan Ait-Nouri says Gary O’Neil has instilled belief in him and now he’s determined to repay the head coach for his faith.
The Algerian international has started seven of Wolves’ eight Premier League games under O’Neil, particularly impressing as a wing-back in recent Molineux clashes with Manchester City and Aston Villa. Signed as a 19-year-old from Angers, Ait-Nouri has developed over the past three seasons, playing 88 times in old gold, and now feels he’s a better player from his experience, which he hopes will now benefit Wolves.
On playing under O’Neil
“I’m very happy. The gaffer has given me confidence and I want to do my best on the pitch to give confidence to the gaffer. I think I need to continue to improve and to develop my football. I’m happy now and I need to continue.”
On the team’s recent form upturn
“I was happy with the good atmosphere against City and Aston Villa and taking four points is good. Now we need to continue, and we need to keep going for the next game against Bournemouth.
“We did a good game against City, but it’s not enough, we need to continue and to enjoy the team. We have a good team, and the atmosphere is very good, and now we need to continue and do our best against Bournemouth.”
On the change in formation
“We’ve played before like this, five at the back, so I know the position. It’s good because I can attack more. I need to stay focused defensively because I need to progress in this part. I enjoy attacking, shooting, and I have more chance to provide an assist or score.”
