Matheus Nunes’ goal against Chelsea has been voted the Budweiser Goal of the Month.
The win sees Wolves become the first Premier League club to win the award in successive months, after Jonny claimed the March honour for his strike against Leeds United.
Nunes’ rocket flew into the top corner to set Wolves on their way to a crucial win over Chelsea – the first of four consecutive Molineux victories which have ensured the club's Premier League status.
Matheus Cunha’s header led to the stunning strike and the attacker was on hand at Compton Park to present his teammate with the award earlier this week.
Speaking on his goal, Nunes said: “The only thing I thought about was to shoot. I hit it well and it was a goal. I wasn’t expecting it at all, but it’s always good to get rewarded.
“Of course, I want to help the team always. It doesn’t matter if it’s goals or assists, or running and tackling, and that day, luckily, I scored in our win. It was good, but what I want is to just to help the team.”
Nunes has flourished under head coach Julen Lopetegui and praised the impact the Spaniard has made since his arrival before Christmas.
He said: “It’s clear for everyone that we’ve improved a lot since his arrival. I still think we have a lot of room to improve, a lot of things we’re not good at, and he certainly knows better than me.
“We just have to keep working, trying to get what he’s trying to tell us to do. Also for the fans because they deserve it and we just have to keep working and get better.”
Now, Nunes and Wolves turn their attention to the final three games of the campaign, starting at Old Trafford on Saturday, and the midfielder wants his side to enjoy the pressure they put on themselves.
“It’s better that we have less pressure. We have the pressure from the club, we have to play good and win for the club. We have always this pressure, to play for the win, and it’s a good pressure.
“It’s always good to play against big teams. It’s going to be a tough game, they have a really good team, so we’re going to face them and try to get the three points.”
