Lemina | 'We’re thinking about us, trying to win games'

Mario Lemina believes the tight nature of the Premier League’s bottom half will ensure Wolves have “really tough” games ahead of them either side of the international break.

The old gold face Leeds United and Nottingham Forest, two clubs within touching distance of them in the Premier League table, in their next two fixtures, knowing results need to improve after defeat at Newcastle United at the weekend. Wolves were edged out on an eventful afternoon in the north east, which saw Hee Chan Hwang’s strike count for nothing after the hosts won it late on, leaving Julen Lopetegui’s side with work to do in the Premier League.

On the challenge ahead of Wolves

“It’s going to be tough, it’s going to be really tough in the next few games because we are so close, from the bottom to just above us, but we’re just thinking about us, trying to win games to stay in this league.”

On a disappointing outcome

“Disappointed because we finally got it to 1-1 against them, but they’re honestly a really strong team who deserve to be where they are in the league. They were really aggressive on us, and we couldn’t handle it in the first half.

“Then we tried to change a little bit in the second half, but honestly they’re a really good team and we tried to do what we have to do, the plan, and we are disappointed because we could do better with the second goal they scored. Now we have to turn the page and try to see in front.”

On where Wolves could improve

“I think in possession. They are really aggressive, we should pass the ball quicker to make them run more and have more solutions in the middle because we could play behind the midfielders. We did sometimes and we had good chances, but it wasn’t enough.”

On the Jimenez incident with Pope

“For me, it was an obvious penalty. I don’t want to talk about referees, and their choices. I don’t want to be this kind of player, if he says it’s not a penalty, we have to just do better and better to try and score a goal. It’s not about the penalty, we have to do better.”
