The draw was made on Thursday evening following the third round fixture between Manchester United and Aston Villa and paired Wolves against the side from Kent for their first meeting since 2014.
Wolves made it into the fourth round of the competition following last night’s 1-0 victory over fellow Premier League outfit Leeds United at Molineux, while The Gills reached this stage of the competition by overcoming another top-flight side in Brentford on penalties.
The teams will now go head-to-head for a place in the quarter-finals during the week commencing 19th December – just days after the 2022 World Cup final.
Lopetegui will be hoping to get off to the perfect start as Wolves' new head coach by reaching the last eight of the competition with his new club, something the old gold have failed to do in more than 25 years.
Date and ticket information for the Gillingham tie will be confirmed in due course.
