The academy graduate was named the winner after receiving more than 55 per cent of the votes having been nominated for the first time in his senior Wolves career. Bueno has earned rave reviews since making the step up to Steve Davis’ first-team, bursting onto the scene at Crystal Palace.
During the past month, the defender has attracted plaudits during all three of his starts, which included an assist on his full debut at Selhurst Park.
No player on the pitch completed more interceptions or blocks against the Eagles, and he was also involved in the equalising goal against Brentford at the weekend.
Having progressed through the youth set-up at Wolves, Bueno was handed his first taste of Premier League football by Davis – who was also his first coach at the academy when he arrived into the under-18s as a 15-year-old.
The head coach was also responsible for converting Bueno from an attacking midfielder into the flying full-back he is today, and Bueno has repaid Davis’ trust with several sparkling performances in the past few weeks – earning the Spaniard his inaugural Castore Player of the Month award.
Davis said: “All four players who were nominated were all worthy nominations as they have all performed very well in the last month.
“Hugo came into the team out of luck really, as it was due to Rayan’s infection, and he wouldn’t have had that opportunity had Rayan been fit, but that’s sometimes how you get your chance in football. Things change very quickly as you’re put in that position and sometimes you only get one chance.
“He obviously had a very good game against Palace, took his chance very well, and because of his performance, he deserved to play the next game and then the next game. You can only judge it one game at a time, and he’s done really well in his three games. He made the goal at Palace, put in numerous crosses at Brentford, but he’s still learning.
“We know he’s going to have a dip and we know he’s going to perform well, but he’s shown he can be an outstanding addition to the squad and more than good enough to be in the team. He deserves his place in the team and he fully deserves this accolade of player of the month.
“Knowing him well, I can’t say I didn’t expect it. I know his personality and I know how hard he’s worked to get to this stage, so it certainly doesn’t surprise me that he’s done so well.”
Bueno faced tough competition for the award, with Ruben Neves, Adama Traore and Daniel Podence also nominated, but he did enough to secure supporters’ votes.
On picking up the award, Bueno said: “It feels amazing. I’m going to put it in the perfect spot. I’m really, really thankful for all the fans and the support that they gave me from the beginning, it's been crazy.
“I remember [playing at Molineux] last season in the 23s and I was hearing my name and I was like, ‘Wow’, but also this season as well.
“I’m really, really thankful for everyone that voted for me, and hopefully I can do even better next month.”
October Castore Player of the Month results:
- Bueno 55.5%
