Toti | On playing with heart, biding his time and keeping spirits high

Having returned to the Wolves starting line-up for Saturday’s visit to Chelsea, Toti admits the spirits in the camp is high ahead of a crucial clash with Nottingham Forest at Molineux this weekend.

Although the defender was unable to help Wolves to a clean sheet on his first appearance of the 2022/23 campaign, he believes he gave his all during the match and will continue to fight with his heart regardless of whether he maintains his place on Saturday or not, as he insists the team is more important than the individual.

On returning to the team at Chelsea

“It’s always good to have the chance to play with the guys. I tried everything to help the guys on the pitch, but it’s never an easy game playing here against Chelsea.

“I think we tried our best. Everyone tried their best to win the match, but it was not easy. We have to be like this. Every player goes to every game with their heart.

“We will make mistakes and that is normal in the game, but if you go with everything, this is the mentality that we have for every game.”

On biding his time on the sidelines

“When I’m not playing, I’m always trying to learn from the guys who are in the team, especially Max [Kilman] and Collins, they are doing a very good job and I’ve had to wait for the opportunity.

“It’s not easy, but we have to stay with the team. Even if you’re not playing, you have to support the guys that are playing and wait for your opportunity. When you get that chance to play, you have to go with everything.”

On keeping spirits high

“We’ve tried to keep a good vibe in the training and in the dressing room. We keep our heads up always.

“We have to support each other because everyone in the team is important, so we have to help each other to grow up and get out from this situation.”

On the managerial situation

“Bruno was with us for more than a year and for me, especially, he was the manager who gave me the opportunity to make my debut in the Premier League. I am so grateful for this. It’s not easy when this sort of situation happens, but this is football. This is something that happens.

“He came to talk a little bit to say goodbye and say that he will keep supporting us from the outside. He’s said although he is no longer with us, he’ll always support us.

“But now we need to just focus day by day on what we are doing. It doesn’t matter who the manager is, it doesn’t matter who is coming here, we will continue to give everything.

“It doesn’t matter who is here with us, because the team is more important than individuals. If you go with the collective and have everyone together, then we will grow up.”
