Victories over Tottenham Hotspur and Leicester City provided the highlights during February for Wolves and one man in gold and black will follow in the footsteps of January’s winner Joao Moutinho in lifting the monthly award.
That winner will be one of Jose Sa, Nelson Semedo, Rayan Ait-Nouri, Ruben Neves or Daniel Podence, who are all in contention for the award.
A regular fixture in the Player of the Month nominations this season has been Sa and he once again produced a solid month of performances, making 21 saves in his five Premier League matches, including a massive one to deny Harry Kane in the Spurs victory.
To his right this season has been Semedo, and he was in fine form until a hamstring injury intervened – no player made more than his six tackles in the win over Leicester, while the Portuguese was heavily involved in Leander Dendoncker’s strike at Spurs.
On the opposite side, Ait-Nouri had another lively month, full of attacking flurries forward – the sort of which created Podence’s winner against Leicester, while no Wolves player could better his tackling, aerial dual and blocking statistics at Spurs.
Also impressive in that Leicester win was Neves, whose stunning strike opened the scoring in front of the South Bank. Even in defeat, the midfielder did his best to pull his side back into games – he completed more than 100 passes at West Ham United on Sunday and topped the same statistic at home to Arsenal.
Finally, Podence’s first Premier League goal of the season was a high point in February, as he fizzed in a fine winner against the Foxes. He also completed 14 dribbles in the space of two games when Norwich City and Arsenal came to Molineux.
