Marcal | 'I had a special feeling for Wolves'

Marcal insists he didn’t have to think twice before switching Champions League semi-finalists Lyon for Wolves this summer, with the defender admitting a ‘special feeling’ he had for the club.

Although the Brazilian is facing a race against time to be fit for this weekend’s Premier League clash with Fulham due to an injury he picked up in Wolves’ defeat to Manchester City, Marcal has high hopes for his career at Molineux.

On moving to Wolves last month

“I always followed the Premier League and the team I supported was Wolverhampton, because of the Portuguese players the team has and the special feeling I have for Portugal.

“I also had a special feeling for Wolves and when the opportunity came, I didn’t think twice.

“I think each season about being the best in my position. I want to give it all to be the best in my position in the championship or get close to that.”

On progressing as a club

“I have made a good decision and I hope to stay here for more years that the years I have in my contract, because I’m sure that we will get very far.

“Wolves has been growing, we have great players that could easily play in the best clubs, even here in England.

“The fact that Nelson Semedo came here from Barcelona shows that lots of people believe that the team will continue to grow.”

On aims for his gold and black career

“From what Wolves have been showing season after season, we can dream about qualifying to the European competitions.

“We have a very strong team and the club provides everything the players need. I played in two big clubs and Wolverhampton doesn’t have a weaker structure compared to them.

“We have all the conditions to qualify to the European competitions.”
