Tommy Doyle believes the Black Country derby victory over West Bromwich Albion provided a ‘perfect day’ for Wolves, as everyone in the squad stepped up to be counted.
The midfielder has made it two wins from two in the fixture having also played his part in the FA Cup derby victory at the Hawthorns back in 2024, so knew just what to expect and how much the game meant to Old Gold supporters.
But Doyle admits he didn’t need to make his teammates aware of the importance of the derby, and every player in Cesar Peixoto’s squad were prepared to put everything on the line for three points, which he feels they demonstrated in their dominant performance.
On Black Country derby victory
“It was a perfect day, really. I thought we played really well. The lads who started, the lads who came on – everyone had an impact, which is a good thing, and the better team won.
“But that should be the standard – the intensity, the high pressure, the way we played on the ball, that's the standard, but obviously it's always sweeter when you do it against your biggest rivals.”

On knowing what the game meant
“Every game's important, but we know there's an extra edge to this. This is a massive game and you could feel that from the fans and the way everyone was in the build-up during the week.
“But all we want to do as players is make our supporters proud, and hopefully we did that.”
On getting up to speed as a substitute
“It’s difficult, but the job is to see the game out and bring a bit of calm to the pitch. They were always going to have a spell and normally in those games it’s towards the end, so it's just about sticking together, coming on and making a difference.
“Our bench was very strong, so when we come on, we've got to make a difference.”
On missing Jimenez through injury
“We're going to have these obstacles all season. It's a long season and there's a lot of games, so lads will pick up injuries, that's just natural.
“Hopefully he’s not out for long, but while he is, we have to keep working and keep sticking together. Arma was up there on Sunday and was first class, so everyone is stepping up.”
On going into the break with three points
“It was important to go into the break with a win, but you want to win this game no matter what, whether it's a break or not.
“It gives the lads who have little knocks time to recover, and we can enjoy it now with our families for a couple of weeks and then back to the grind.”
