The 18-year-old, who has progressed through the age groups of the Wolves Academy after joining the club at the age of seven, replaced fellow debutant Bruno Jordao after the Portuguese youngster was stretchered off just before half-time.
Perry, who scored a penalty in the Premier League Asia Trophy final against Manchester City in pre-season, is now hoping his debut appearance could lead to more playing time with the first-team as Wolves continue into the next round of the competition.
On making his senior debut
“It’s an incredible feeling. Making your debut for the club that you’ve been at for 11 years, is a great achievement for me and my family, and a real good moment for me.
“Obviously you want to come onto the pitch, but I wasn’t expecting to come on that soon. They told me to warm up when Bruno went down, so I warmed up, but I thought they were going to bring Joao [Moutinho] on, not me.
“It came as a surprise but I’m really glad they chose me, and that Nuno put the trust in me to come on so early in the game which was a really good game for me to set the standards for.
“You have the likes of Neves playing and a couple of players with experience, Bennett, Ruddy in goal, so it really helped me as a professional as well, playing with many experienced players, and it helps me to get better.”
On a hard-fought win against Reading
“It was hard because we’re a young team out there, especially as the manager brought two other young players on, so it was always going to be tough for us.
“But we rose to the challenge, and it was just a shame that we conceded right at the very end, but we went down to 10-men, Cutrone had a little knock, so it was almost like we were playing with nine-men, and we really had to put a shift in.
“It was a tough game, but a really enjoyable game at the end.”
On another penalty shootout victory
“That’s two this season already now, so hopefully we won’t have to go through any more. We just want to win the games without the stress.
“I would’ve taken one, but Nuno had his sheet of who he wanted to take them and I was number six, so if it came to me, I would’ve taken one happily, and hopefully I would’ve scored it.
“But I didn’t need to worry about that because the boys did fantastic out there and put away the chances. John [Ruddy] made two great saves, so can’t ask for anything more.
“It’s always great to win a penalty shootout as it takes the stress away and puts us through to the next round, that’s the main thing.”
On reaching the Carabao Cup fourth round
“Now we’re in the next round and hopefully I’ll get another chance. Nuno will hopefully put his trust in us again and we’ll get another chance to prove ourselves.
“We’ll take in our stride and we’ll compete, because we want to win in the tournament.”
