Vallejo proud of the "pack" after Reading win

Jesus Vallejo believes Wolves’ shootout victory over Reading in the Carabao Cup showed the club is “a pack”.

A youthful-looking Wolves team overcame the challenge of finishing with ten men and conceding in the ninth minute of injury time to progress in the competition. The Real Madrid loanee himself netted in the shootout, along with three team mates, and wants the confidence gained to carry into the different challenges ahead.

On winning the tie

I think it was a very important win for the team. I think this year is very important, the whole team, because we have very tough games, we are in a lot of competitions, and we saw today we are a pack, we are a team and we are in the next round.

I think in the first-half we had more control of the ball, we created more chances, but they worked very well in the second-half. We defended very well as well, but this is football, and these things can happen.”

On conceding late on

I think we defended very well with one less player, but we have to be happy because we were very focused on the penalties, especially our keeper, John Ruddy, he trains very, very hard.

“The most important I think is the direction after this, we did very focused penalties and we have to be very happy with it, and now it’s very important to do a good recovery for the next game.”

On stepping up in the shootout

“I tried to do penalties in training. For example, yesterday, with penalties, I told the coach I wanted to shoot a penalty because I felt very good.

“I think it’s important to want to take a penalty and give confidence to the coach, to the team, and I’m very happy with all the team because we demonstrated we are a pack.”

On taking confidence into Saturday

“We have to get more points in the Premier League, it’s true, but if we win on Saturday, I think we’ll start like a new season, but I have a lot of confidence with this team because, like I said before, we are very important, all the team, we are very important this season.”
