Wolves' discipline pleases Nuno

Nuno Espirito Santo was pleased with how the discipline his side showed at the start of their Europa League third qualifying round first leg with FC Pyunik before turning on the style to win comfortably.

The home side posed a threat in the early stages of the game and the Wolves head coach was happy with the way his side weathered the threat of the Armenian side ahead of being clinical in front of goal to take a four goal lead back to Molineux for the second leg next Thursday evening.

On the test Pyunik posed

“We knew it was going to be a tough game, and they started the game very strong, created us a lot of problems, but it’s a good team with good players, and that was the time for us to be organised, be patient and stay in shape.

“After that we managed well and started moving the ball and trying to create gaps and spaces, but it’s not over. We still have one game to go, but it’s a good team.”

On being clinical in front of goal

“I’m happy, but I’m also happy with a lot of other things. There are a lot of aspects in the game that we must look at.

“But knowing that a goal is one of the most important things, when they achieve through good combinations and they combine themselves is good. It’s a long process and we’ll keep on going.”

On a competitive pre-season

“It’s totally different, we approached it in a different way, with a lot of trips all over the world, but I’m pleased with the discipline and the hard work of the players. It’s amazing how they work, they treat themselves and they respect themselves.

“But it’s about protecting the team and building.”

On Adama Traore missing the match

“Traore had a problem with his passport, so he couldn’t travel. He didn’t know and it was impossible for him to travel with his ID card outside the European Union, so he didn’t travel with us.

“He’ll join us for the next game.”

On Patrick Cutrone

“He’s integrating, but it takes time. Every new player who comes to our team needs time. We have to keep on going with him. His adaptation into the squad has been great, he has been received well into the group and it’s important that he continues to improve and get inside the dynamics of the team.

“But more important is the way he believes in the terms of discipline and ambitions; he’s going along with that so I’m happy.”
