The skipper will lead Wolves out against Crusaders FC at a sold-out Molineux, as the club compete in a European competition for the first time in almost 40 years. The fixture draws the line under pre-season earlier than normal for the Wolves players, but for Coady, he’s delighted competitive football is back early at Molineux.
On captaining Wolves in Europe
“It’s huge to captain this football club on a daily basis, but more importantly, to play with the players I do, and to play for this football club has been brilliant.
“It’s a competition we want to take as strongly as possible because there’s an excitement building which we can’t wait for.
“It’s fantastic to have European football back at Molineux. I think it represents where this club has come in the last few years, but it’s a big game for us and we’re looking forwards to it.
“We’ve prepared as well as we possibly can and everybody’s really excited by it, so we looking forwards to it.”
On preparing for Crusaders
“It’s a huge game Crusaders coming to Molineux, but it’s also a huge game for us and one we’re excited for.
“For us as players it’s better when the competitive games come around quicker because they’re a lot better than friendlies, but we’ve prepared right and we’re ready now.
“We’re happy it’s starting earlier. These are the games we want to play in and the challenge ahead of us is to do it right and perform well.”
On a full Molineux
“We know what Molineux can be like from last season, we know how important the supporters are to us as players, to the club, and they don’t half drive us on when we do play at home.
“We know what it can be like and we need them more than we ever did, so it’s fantastic for everybody at the club to have European football back, and it’s a big game for us, so we’re really looking forward to it.”
On potential new signings
“For us, it’s up to the club and what they decide to do. Us as players are ready for when new players come in, to welcome them, and hopefully get them up to speed as quick as possible because when players come in, we want them to help us.
“We want to grow as much as we possibly can and help this club. Whoever decides to come in and whoever the club bring in is fantastic for us and we will just be ready to welcome them in and hopefully push them forward as quick as possible.”
