The head coach is taking a squad of 26 players, including senior internationals and Academy youngsters, out on the club’s first ever trip to China, where the team will compete in the 2019 Premier League Asia Trophy.
Not only will the tour give his players a chance to prepare for the upcoming Premier League season, but it will also strengthen the bond between the club and its owners Fosun, with the team due to stay close to the investment giant’s headquarters in Shanghai.
On heading to China
“We know that going to China was something that the club, including myself, want to be involved in. Now we have to realise that it’s going to be tough and we have to change a little bit.
“We know that in China we have to be patient and be flexible enough to, maybe, afford to not have a training session because of the climate or things that here in Compton we can control.
“In China, we don’t know what we’re going to find, so anticipating that is the best way.
“We go knowing that what is not so important is to way we’re going to perform there, but that it’s one more step in our preparation for the season ahead.”
On growing the Wolves brand in Asia
“Of course, going to China is going to have a great impact for the club. Our ownership is Chinese and we’re going to be with Fosun, the players are going to know (about the club’s owners) and they’re going to have a face.
“This is important for the identity and the culture of the club; realising that we are all in the same family – Wolves and Fosun.”
