Moutinho: I want to win something with Wolves

Joao Moutinho says his Wolves teammates will try everything they can as they attempt to reach the club’s first FA Cup final appearance since 1960.

The experienced Portuguese international knows what it takes to win big competitions having been part of a Portugal side which lifted the Euro 2016 trophy, as well as coming out on top in numerous domestic and European competitions throughout his illustrious career.

But now in the gold and black of Wolves, Moutinho has indicated his ambition to bring cup success to Molineux.

On wanting to win the FA Cup

“Every player when they sign for a club wants to win something. We are in the semi-final, but we will try to beat Watford. They are a very good team who have very good player and play very well. We try to do our best to get to the final.

“We know to win something this year, it is the FA Cup, and that is why we need to be focused for the next game.

“First we need to go to the final and we have a hard game. But if we can win all the players will try to win. I do my best to win something. That is what my motivation is – to win something.

“My ultimate ambition is to win the Premier league as I have never won it, but I want to win the FA Cup if we can, but we have a hard game on Sunday.

“I have never won the Champions League, I was in the semi-final and quarter-final, but I have won the Europa League. I think day-by-day, year-by-year and this year we can win something – this is the cup, but we have a tough game and we need to prepare for that.”

On how winning FA Cup will compare to winning the Euros

“One is a club and one is national team and it is different. If we can achieve that it would be very good.

“For me it is very good, but we can’t compare the competitions. If we can, we will try to win. It will mean a lot for me and the club and fans.”

On Premier League clash with Watford

“Against Watford we played two midfielders and now we play with three and two in front. Since we have moved to a three we are better, but they are better too.

“I think we can beat them, but we need to be very focused on the game, and if we can do that we can win, but they are a very good team and have showed in every game that they can beat all the teams.

“We need to do our best to be focused for this game. Because if we don’t and think we are in the final, then we have already lost.

“We need to think about Sunday as it will be a very tough and hard game.”

On differences between Premier League and European leagues

“For me the Premier League is the best league in the world. The football they have is fascinating because of the teams, the atmosphere and stadiums.

“The football is a little more aggressive and I say that as a good term, not a bad term. There is more contact. I like this.

“I am small and sometimes I don’t go to the contact, but the players need to be intelligent and know what they can and can’t do. I try to do my best. But this league is very good and plays very good football.”

On the experience he brings to Wolves

“In football we need to be intelligent because sometimes you can have a lot of things, but you need to know when to pass and stay with the ball.

“When you go to the counter-attack you need to know all these things about the game. I bring this, and I believe I bring my quality to help the team.

“That is why I try to do at every training session, improve every game and to do my best to help the team. For me that is the most important thing, to help the team to achieve their goals.”
