An outstanding defensive performance from Nuno Espirito Santo’s side saw the team come just minutes away from claiming a memorable win over Chelsea, but Eden Hazard’s stunning effort in added time stung the hearts of the Wolves players and supporters.
Jota, who provided the assist for Raul Jimenez to open the scoring, felt Wolves put in an ‘almost perfect’ performance before having two points snatched from their grasp.
On Stamford Bridge result
“In the end, a draw here at Stamford Bridge is a good result, but if you see the dressing room we are not happy because we felt that we could have won the game.
“I thought the defensive performances from all of the team was almost perfect. We started the game knowing how Chelsea would play, and we knew we would have to try to close their ways to the goal.
“We did it very well in the first-half, but in the second-half we started to reach the final third more often and we scored the goal. After that, we had to stick to our defensive plan to try to win the game, but, unfortunately, they scored a very good goal through Hazard.”
On strike partnership with Jimenez
“We worked on it at the beginning of the season to understand each other, of course, when a new player arrives we have to adapt to him, and that’s that we did.
“I think our relationship now is natural, but we still work hard on it during the week to put in a good performance like this today.”
On Wolves being ‘best of the rest’
“We’ve now got a break in the Premier League, so we’re thinking about the FA Cup. We know that we have the break, so have time to prepare ourselves for the rest of the competition.”
