Nuno named Premier League Manager of the Month

Nuno Espírito Santo has been named Premier League Manager of the Month for September after Wolves’ strong start to the season – but dedicated the award to his players, coaches, club staff and the fans.

Wolves were undefeated for the entirety of last month, taking ten points from a possible 12 which were available; beating West Ham United, Burnley and Southampton, as well as drawing with Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The head coach has also set a Premier League record for naming the same starting 11 for the first eight matches of a season, and Nuno was joined in receiving the prize by the club’s medical staff who have helped keep his Wolves squad injury free.

Alongside his team of coaches, Nuno invited Richard Kirby, Tom Male, Rui Fuste, Phil Hayward, Dr Matthew Perry, Oliver Leaper, Matthew Wignall and Danny Fishwick to collect the prestigious Premier League award.

Nuno said: “It represents the effort of everybody working here in Compton, everyone at Molineux, our fans, the players, everybody.

“There’s no individual prizes in football, everything comes from the team. Everybody is in the pack.”

Nuno was voted as the recipient of the award having been named on a shortlist alongside Unai Emery of Arsenal, Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.

But the boss knows Wolves still have a tough Premier League schedule ahead of them, adding: “I think we are doing ok. I think we started last season building, knowing that this year would be a different challenge and the answer of the players has been really good, but we know that there is a long way to go yet.

“September was no doubt a very good month for us, tough games, I think before going away from international break it meant a lot.”
