Character the key factor for Nuno

Nuno Espirito Santo was proud of his side’s character after Wolves came from behind to earn a point at Old Trafford.

The visitors enjoyed the lion’s share of the early chances but fell behind to Fred’s goal for Manchester United and heads could have dropped.

However, Wolves stuck to their philosophy against Jose Mourinho’s United and earned a deserved point thanks to Joao Moutinho’s brilliant strike.

“We had good character, it’s important,” he said. “We had three good chances at the beginning of the game and that can create a bit of frustration. Then it was United’s first chance they scored from.

“This is what shape is all about, staying organised and when you have the ball you have to produce chances.

“What I saw was a very good game of football. We have positives to analyse and improve.”

United and Wolves served up an entertaining spectacle at Old Trafford, with Nuno facing his former boss in Mourinho, and he was pleased with the outcome.

“It was a good game. Two teams wanted to win, they were fighting and it was well-played. The point was deserved in a tough stadium against a very good team.

“When you create chances and put yourselves in front of the score everything changes. We go into games with that intention, with our ideas and we play our football, because we can’t play any other way.

“We have a criteria and want to see some aspects of the game. We had chances so with a little bit more work and better decision making, we could have won.”

Wolves are now unbeaten in four Premier League matches and have taken points from last season’s top two clubs, but Nuno insists there is still more growth to come from his side.

“In the end, the most important thing for me is that we’re growing. We are improving game by game, step by step.

“It’s since the first day of last season, we were very clear what we want to achieve, to have a team to compete with any team in the country.”
