Matt Jackson revealed crucial talks on Tuesday morning confirmed that a loan move for Sean Neave to Wolves suited all parties.
He and Cesar Peixoto spoke to the striker, Newcastle United and his representatives early on deadline day to conclude the recruitment process, ahead of the youngster travelling to Compton Park.
The 19-year-old has impressed at youth level for Newcastle and England and now heads out for a first loan in senior football, and the technical director believes their new loan signing has all the qualities to be a success at Molineux.
On bringing Neave to the club
“We’re really pleased to have met the specific criteria that Cesar was looking to add to the club with this signing. I’m close with Ross Wilson, the sporting director at Newcastle, and they've been really helpful. His enthusiasm and drive to be a professional are what all young players should aspire to have.
“It's a journey coming away from home for the first time and he's ready to play games, he loves to play football, you can tell that from his performances, and that absolutely is what we want his focus to be here.”
On adding another number nine
“It was important to get a player of a certain type because we want someone to come in who's really looking to learn and develop and bring a real hunger to us, and to add his own personality to our group as well. I think he can learn from our senior players but will also bring his own values. He is very hard-working and a really technical player, and he has had a great grounding with exposure in the first-team at Newcastle already.
“He was excellent against us [under-21s last season], and it reaffirmed what we already knew about him. We track all of the top, young domestic talent, so we knew him very well already. He always fitted the model once we'd had those squad discussions from Cesar's perspective.”
On meeting on Tuesday morning
“We knew that Newcastle would make a very late decision on him and we wanted to be in the mix, and lucky enough we were given the opportunity to present to them, alongside other clubs. Cesar joining the call on a matchday as a head coach shows the buy-in that he has for recruitment process.
“I'd like to think that resonated with Sean, his representatives and the senior representatives from Newcastle. It’s great to have that support, and we’re delighted to welcome him here.”
On minutes to be had
“That was obviously an important part of their consideration. Raul, we know, can be such a great figure to learn from, but the way that we play, fresh legs will often be useful later in games. Cesar does not care about age, so the best players will play. Sean has an opportunity to force his way into the team but will also get great exposure at a really high level.
“Having done that loan role here, I understand Newcastle’s expectations for their young players. I could explain exactly what our project was, and having the backing of the head coach really helped too. It works when you can offer a project that really stimulates the player but also satisfies the needs of our football club.”
