After earning his first call up into Alex Mcleish’s squad, the Wolves defender came on as a substitute in the 1-0 win in Budapest.
Douglas admits it was nice to finally play for his county, he feels it represents how well Wolves have done this season that so many players have represented their countries during the recent international break.
“It was nice to get called up and to be part of it, then obviously to play a part and get that cap,” began Douglas.
“I’m not once of the young boys any more and I’ve been overlooked a few times in the past few years when I’ve felt I’d been playing well.
“I thought maybe the chance had gone but this year, thankfully, I got to play and to get that cap.
“It was nice for me and my family. I feel good, I’m playing good football and I’ve contributed but I think it says more about how the team have been doing.
“I read that we had nine international guys who were involved with their teams - that speaks volumes considering we’re a Championship club.
“The team have helped us to replicate the form that we’ve had all season - it’s been a collective effort and it’s nice that a few of the boys are getting recognition of being in the national team.”
Speaking ahead of the Good Friday trip to Middlesbrough (5:30pm), Douglas emphasised that Wolves have ‘eight cup finals’ at the Sky Bet Championship season draws to a close.
Douglas feels that the international break came at a good time for Wolves following the two wins over Reading and Burton Albion.
The 28 year old is, however, expecting a tough match from Tony Pulis’ side at the Riverside Stadium on Friday.
“It will be a difficult game - we need to give them the respect that’s due,” Douglas said.
“They’ve been in quite good form recently - no game’s easy in this league and we know that but we’ve got eight cup finals, we’ve got it all to play for and that’s all the motivation that we need right there.
“It was a nice time to have a little break and reenergise.
“We’ve got eight cup finals, so starting tomorrow we need to kick on from the last two victories and hopefully get the win.
“Coming off the back of the Villa game, we were disappointed because it gave us a big knock but we know the quality that we’ve got in the squad.
“We know we can beat anyone on our day. We never get too caught up in it, it’s gone, it’s one game and we just look to the next game - then bounce back the way we did.
“We had two really good victories since then so we’ll be confident on Friday.”
