There was a lively start to the game with John Ruddy touching a long range John Swift strike onto the post and a richochet off Mo Barrow flying inches wide as the hosts started strongly.
It was Wolves who broke the deadlock in the 16th minute, Diogo Jota’s sublime pass finding Ivan Cavaleiro’s great run and the winger selling keeper Vito Mannone a dummy before converting into the empty net.
Cavaleiro saw another shot deflected into the side netting and Jota had an effort blocked before half time while the second period brought plenty of goalmouth incident at both ends.
Wolves flashed a few crosses across the box with no one able to convert but were indebted at the other end to a point blank John Ruddy save and follow-up clearance off the line from Willy Boly.
And the points were sealed in the 88th minute when Helder Costa burst forward and started a move finished emphatically with a left foot strike from Matt Doherty.
