Wolves goalkeeper Will Norris believes Wolves did themselves justice on Tuesday night, after keeping free-scoring Manchester City at bay for 120 minutes in the Carabao Cup.
It was ultimately heart-break for Wolves as they crashed out of the competition on penalties at the Etihad Stadium.
Despite the disappointment, Norris says that his team mates can take pride from Tuesday's performance.
He said, “I think our boys did themselves justice on the night.
“I think our main objective was just to go out there and get our performance right, and do ourselves proud, and I think we did do that."
Despite shutting out Pep Guardiola’s side, it was far from one way traffic and Norris believes the game could have gone either way.
“We’ve had chances to win it, equally they’ve had chances to win it as well - we’ve ground it out and they’ve ground it out as well.
“Unfortunately, someone had to go out on penalties, and unfortunately tonight it was us."
The 24-year-old stopper says he’s proud of the team’s performance, despite the change to their usual approach, “We knew coming into the game we weren’t going to have long spells on the ball.
“We knew we needed to be efficient with it when we did have the ball.
“I think the boys did fantastically well, we defended as a team and we broke away as a team.
“Unfortunately, we’ve gone so close, someone had to go out and it was us."
Amazingly, the former Cambridge United goalkeeper is yet to concede a goal in his Wolves career, since joining the club in the summer, but he’s adamant that it’s a team effort.
He continued, “Yeah it’s nice to have clean sheets, it’s what I’m here for, but it’s not just down to me, it’s such a group effort.
“Danny (Batth) has made some unbelievable blocks, Benno’s (Ryan Bennett) been unbelievable today.
“The whole back-five and defensive unit, we defended when we had to, it’s very much a team effort."
Norris also believes a performance like this will help the team in the long run.
“It does definitely galvanise the group - it brings the group a little bit closer together, to dig in and get a good result result after 120 minutes against a team like that, it does galvanise the group.”
Wolves' next challenge comes on Saturday, as they make the trip to Loftus Road to face Queens Park Rangers in the Sky Bet Championship.
