We Can Always Do Better

Roderick Miranda discusses the squad’s continual desire to improve in all areas of the pitch.

Wolves took four points from two home fixtures over the last week; a 1-0 win over Millwall on Saturday afternoon before a thrilling 3-3 draw with Bristol City on Tuesday night.

And, while Miranda believes that the team is performing well, he maintained that there is always room for improvement.

“Against Bristol City we didn’t have the luck of the game,” explained the defender before adding: “We tried to score all game, and we did that, but we also suffered three goals.

“We have to work harder on our set pieces to try and improve that.

“We need to keep improving and, in the next game, perform the same going forward and defensively do better – not concede the scrappy goals that we did on Tuesday.

“We try to win all of our games. We are doing good but we can always do better.

“On Saturday our focus will be that. We will try to win, try to not suffer any goals and try to score as many as possible. That’s our goal.”

Wolves have earned six clean sheets from nine fixtures in all competitions so far this season. And, when asked if that record was something the players took pride in, Miranda replied: “For sure but I think the credit has to go to the whole team because the defensive work starts with the forwards.

“The whole team has to take the credit. Just like when we score, sometimes the move starts from the goalkeeper so that shows how we play as a team.

“We’ve already earned four clean sheets in the league this season but our mentality is to improve on that.

“We try to go through every game without conceding any goals.

“That’s our mentality going into every match – play a good game, try not to suffer any goals and try to score as much as possible.”

The 26-year-old summer signing has started every league fixture for Wolves so far this season and Miranda admitted how impressed he has been with British football.

“I must confess, I’m very impressed because everything is very good; players, teams, stadiums.
“Altogether, it’s a very good atmosphere, it’s a very good show for the people than come and watch us.

“The last game is proof of that with a 3-3 draw. A lot of goals, a lot of emotion – everybody likes a game like that.

“For the fans it must have been great to watch but, for us, I think we must improve.

“I am very happy to be here. I’ve tried to adapt very quickly to the British culture and British football as well as doing my best to help the team.

“After the first few weeks and the first few games I feel good, not too tired.

“It is still early in the season and, for now, I am okay. I don’t know how the body will respond in one or two more months.

“At Wolves everybody tries to recover the players 100%, we have a lot of people around the club helping us and that makes it easier to recover.”

Nuno’s men travel to the City Ground on Saturday afternoon to take on Nottingham Forest in their next Sky Bet Championship outing.

“They’re a great team and it’s one more game where we have to be at our best to compete,” explained the defender.

“We have to try and play our game, try to impose our football, just like we do in every game.

“We will do our best, try to win and hopefully can give our fans the joy of three
points.”
