Jon Dadi Bodvarsson has thanked fans for their continuing support as he looks to re-hit the goal trail – and remains confident it is only a matter of time.
The excellent all-round play and leading the line of the powerful Icelandic frontman has not been matched by his goal output, but he remains in positive mood and focused on all aspects of his game.
And, as Wolves prepare for today's visit of Cardiff City (3pm), he believes it is all about coming through the ups and downs of football and being a better player for it.
“It is nice that the fans have been supporting me,” he says.
“I feel I always try to please the fans and do my best on the field.
“We all know the goals are not there at the moment
“I try not to focus too much on the negative side of that but also focus on the other aspects of my game and work as hard as I can and hopefully people can see that
“As a striker scoring is one of the most important aspects of the game.
“At the same time you can’t overthink it – don’t forget the other aspects of game or lose sight of that.
“It is about being patient – it will come eventually.
“I am positive it will happen in the near future, next game hopefully!
“I don’t let it affect me or seek help from anyone – as big a stage as the Championship is, football is still a game and you do best if you enjoy it and embrace it.
“I am my own competitor, and the mission is to help the team as best I can for the rest of the season.
“With the goals, for me it will hopefully be like the Dutch people say.
“It is like the Tomato Ketchup effect – you squeeze the bottle as much as possible and nothing comes out.
“Then all of a sudden it all comes out – and hopefully that will happen with my goals!
“But yes, I do appreciate the support from fans, especially during the hard times of the season.
“It helps myself and the team get back on our feet and motivates us even more to deliver for them.
“In a football career you have ups and downs and you have to deal with it.
“If anything it improves you as a player and as an individual.
“Not to be too dramatic, but when life throws something at your face, you just deal with it and that is what I am doing right now.”
As ever Bodvarsson is keen to talk more about the team than himself, and, back from international duty with Iceland, is focused on helping Wolves build on the promising run prior to the international break.
“We needed those results before the internationals because the situation we were in was a huge wake-up call,” he says.
“We talked about it because we needed to improve our game.
“At times we had been careless and conceded late goals but now I think we are a bit more focused on grinding out results and keeping clean sheets which is really important in a league like the Championship.
“These three games now this week are going to be hugely important for the season.
“We look at these games as almost like a final and motivate ourselves really well and prepare ourselves physically and mentally.
“We have to keep the togetherness we have had and we keep doing this then anything is possible.
“This is our home ground and we don’t want any teams to get anything from us.
“We need to play as a team and get the crowd with us at our home ground.”
