Wolves are delighted to have completed the signing of powerful 27-year-old midfielder Prince Oniangue.
The French-born Congo international has joined from Stade de Reims for an undisclosed fee, putting pen to paper on a four-year contract, subject to international clearance.
Oniangue, who was at Saturday’s win against Reading during talks over the deal, is set to be available for the first time for Saturday’s trip to Birmingham City.
“I am very happy to be here at Wolves,” said Oniangue.
“I want to thank everybody who has worked on the deal so that I can come here.
“I was at the game on Saturday and I was very happy with the result.
“There was a good atmosphere and it was very positive for the club for the season.
Obiangue is currently with Reims where he has played in the French top division for the last three seasons, scoring 13 goals in 82 appearances.
Prior to that he was with Tours for three years where he boasted similar figures, notching 14 goals in 84 games.
He had started his career with Rennes but only made a handful of appearances for the first team there, playing most of his football in their reserves.
A loan spell with Angers in the 2009/10 season gave him his first sustained spell of senior football.
Oniangue has won 30 international caps for Congo, and is currently the captain of the international team.
“The coach has said he likes me because I can get up the pitch and shoot and score.
“And I also like the vision of the club - everybody wants to get to the Premier League and that is a challenge that I like.
“It was my dream to come and play in England and today it has come true.
“I just want to start training with my new team-mates and then try to start winning some matches and give joy to the people and the city of Wolverhampton.
“Having played for different teams in now I think it is the second part of my career as I come to England, and I think it will be very good.”
Oniangue has undergone a fairly eventful journey to get where he is today.
Earlier in his life he donated bone marrow to help his brother, who was suffering from sickle-cell anaemia, while he had to sit out the African Under-20 Cup of Nations with Congo because his Mum wanted him to finish his High School exams.
“My Mum was happy because I did my exams, and the Congo team still won the African Junior Cup,” he says.
For now though, the focus is on the future, and trying to continue his very successful career with Wolves.
“It is an amazing story and now I want to push it on with good success at Wolves,” he added.
“Everything is possible if everyone at Wolves believes.
“And if every fan believes then we will get to the Premier League.”
