Wolves took an early lead through Matt Doherty at the Cardiff City Stadium on Tuesday night but were pegged back twice in the second half to fall to defeat.
And while the Head Coach believes Wolves were comfortable in the first half, he admitted that his side didn't do enough in the second.
Speaking after Tuesday's game, he said: “First half we were fine, there wasn’t a problem. Second half, they came out and got a little bit of impetus in the game.
“They were never really damaging until the goal but I don’t think we did enough in the second half. I thought we were pretty comfortable in the first half.
“All Cardiff really did was pump long balls into the box from throw-ins and corners.
“I thought we dealt with it pretty well but I thought the equaliser was poor, we should have done better with that one.
“We had a chance at 1-1 to make it 2-1 but, apart from that, I don’t think we did enough in the second half.
“It was a poor game with few chances. It was a game of long balls and second balls.
"Saville’s was probably one of the best chances of the game."
In the build-up to Cardiff's equalising goal, the home side won a corner that the Head Coach felt was awarded incorrectly.
“It’s not a corner," he said before adding: "I’ve seen it. How the referee’s given that I don’t know.
“You can always go by players reactions and every one of them thought that it was a goal kick.
“But you’ve to be able to defend corners in this division. You can see the way that Cardiff play, they will get balls into the box."
When asked how his players took the defeat, Lambert responded: “They’re down which you would expect. That’s normal after every game you lose.
“This league is unforgiving, they’re a young team and they need a little bit of experience and help.
“They came out in the second half with a little bit more urgency than ourselves.
“We had a really tough game on Saturday. The emotion of that game was obviously draining as well. I knew the game took its toll on Cavaleiro, Dicko and Costa.
"We came out leggy and tired which is no excuse because they played on Saturday as well. In this league you have to perform in every single game.
“Since I’ve been here we’ve always been in games.
“I always think we look a threat now compared to what we did before but you’ve got to be stronger in this division."
