Jack Price is confident there is enough spirit and ability within Wolves ranks to come out of the current poor run of results.
Wolves head to QPR tonight (7.45pm) on the back of nine games without a win, and in need of a positive result before the rest of the Sky Bet Championship schedule over the weekend.
Price, who has been restored to the starting line-up since the arrival of Head Coach Paul Lambert, is adamant Wolves are capable of improvement.
“Sheffield Wednesday was a frustrating performance for us and there were times in the game when I felt if we could have got a goal we would have pushed on,” says the midfielder.
“You could sense the frustration around the team and the supporters - the fans are passionate at Wolves and want to see the team doing well.
“They’re obviously hurting and the players are as well.
“We have to stick together - we know we are good enough to turn it around and that is what we will look to be doing
“The key at the moment is to get that first goal to give everyone such a boost – fans, players and staff.
“When you are in a bit of a rut and concede first it can be hard.
“We have to keep our heads though – this is football.
“Confidence is a big part of the game but I don’t feel that isn’t there for us at the moment.
“Things haven’t been falling for us but we just need that win to prove we are a good team and we can get results.
“We have the quality, we have some good players here – players that have come in recently and players that were here already.
“You can see it in training and we just it to click into place for the matches.”
Price is delighted to be back in the team and back in contention again for Loftus Road this evening.
As well as performances on the pitch, he is also keen to play more of a role behind the scenes as he grows in experience.
“There are always times in football when you are injured or a gaffer doesn’t favour you,” he acknowledges.
“You have to keep yourself ready, because you know you will always get another chance.
“You have to keep fit, and stay professional, and everyone is like that anyway.
“It is about keeping your head and when the time is right and the opportunity comes along, you have to take it.”
Price continues: “I feel I have more of a say in the changing room now
“I have been here so many years now, I feel like a more senior member of the squad, and if I do say something I feel that is being heard.
“We are a young squad, and when we play a young versus old game in training, I I am in the old team, at 23 years of age!
“With a young squad sometimes you can be a bit naïve but I think we have got enough experience in the league now.
“We just need to believe in ourselves, go out there and give our all.
“We can never guarantee a result, but we need to go out and there and give our best.”
Price says spirits remain high in the camp despite the recent run, and that it just needs a win to give a lift to the squad.
“The gaffer and the staff are keeping spirits high and everyone is coming into the training ground bubbly and no one’s heads are dropping,” he added.
“Everyone wants to do well, and we just need to keep plugging away and a great way to start would be to get three points tonight and lift the place.
“Regardless of position in the league, you always have to take things game by game, and we are not looking any further than QPR.
“They lost at the weekend, and will come at us all guns blazing.
“We haven’t won in nine, and we need the result for ourselves and more so for the fans and the club.
“We shouldn’t be in the position we are in, and our doing our utmost to get out of it.”
