Dave Edwards’ goal against Norwich on Saturday put him into the ranks of a fairly exclusive club – those who have scored for Wolves in ten consecutive seasons.
By our reckoning - and we stand to be corrected - Edwards is the eighth Wolves player post-war to have achieved the landmark, although there were more in the club’s earlier history as well.
The Welsh international midfielder is the first to do since the club’s record goalscorer Steve Bull, who struck his 306 Wolves goals in 13 seasons between 1986/87 and 1998/99.
There are some very illustrious names on the post-war list, starting with wingers Johnny Hancocks and Jimmy Mullen.
Hancocks notched in ten successive seasons from 1946/47 to 1955/56, and Mullen in 13 consecutive campaigns from 1946/47 to 1958/59.
Striker Dennis Wilshaw was on the scoresheet for ten successive seasons from 1948/49 to 1957/58, and the mercurial Peter Broadbent for 14 years from 1950/51 to 1963/64.
John Richards, Wolves’ second most prolific scorer behind Bull, struck in 12 consecutive years from 1970/71 to 1981/82 and midfielder Kenny Hibbitt for 13 from 1970/71 to 1982/83.
There are also some very near misses from players who went mighty close to scoring in ten consecutive years.
Ron Flowers notched in every season from 1954/55 to 1965/66, but missed out in 1958/59, while Dave Wagstaffe struck in each campaign from 1964/65 to 1974/75, apart from 1972/73.
Derek Dougan was on the scoresheet for nine consecutive years from 1966/67 to 1974/75.
In Bull’s era, Robbie Dennison also went close, scoring in every campaign from 1986/87 to 1994/95, but not being able to find the net in the tenth.
Edwards’ goals have come in three different divisions, three years in the Premier League, six in the Championship, and one year in League One.
Currently with 35 goals to his name, his first for Wolves came on his debut, in a 2-0 away win at Scunthorpe United, on January 19th, 2008 (pictured).
"It is nice for me to have scored in ten consecutive seasons for Wolves and an honour to have been part of this club for so long," said Edwards, currently away with the Wales squad ahead of their World Cup qualifiers with Austria and Georgia.
