Walter Zenga reflected on a frustrating afternoon as Wolves failed to make the most of their chances and fell to a 1-0 defeat at home to Leeds United.
The 70th minute goal, converted into his own net by Silvio as he and Kemar Roofe both went for a cross, was the difference between the two sides during a hard-fought 90 minutes.
Wolves had plenty of chances of their own, but were unable to break the deadlock, to the frustration of the Head Coach who revealed he held a positive post-match meeting with the players.
“I don’t really know where to start because in the last period we have played well and created a lot of chances,” he said.
“But then every time we make one mistake we get punished with a goal.
“It is a period like this.
“If there is one mistake from the opponent in the box it doesn’t seem to happen but we make a mistake and we are punished.
“This can happen in football sometimes.
“It would be more negative if the team didn’t play well, and wasn’t creating anything and lost the game.
“But in a positive way the spirit of the team is high and they are still playing good football.
“We created chances and we have to convert them.
“We have to keep working to come out of this period and pick up positive results.
“We have to stay compact and not think everything is negative.”
And Zenga revealed that he hopes for a positive impact from the post-match meeting in the dressing room as Wolves look to return to some of the early season form which saw him start his reign with a six-game unbeaten run.
“We had an important meeting in the locker room after the game – just me and the players,” he explained.
“And I am sure 100 per cent that things are going to change.
“Sometimes it is important that you talk not between coach and players but between man and man.
“The response was important.
“There is something that has to change.
“In the first period in August everything was on our side and we only lost one game.
“Sometimes it is something that you cannot control exactly.
“It is not something that you can improve in training – you can improve in training if the team play badly.
“But that hasn’t happened.
“The players are involved inside the game and we just need to take our chances.
“Take the last chance for Helder – I cannot blame Helder.
“He has been running like a horse for 90 minutes and has been the best player on the pitch and has received hundreds of fouls.
“I have to say that next time, he will score.”
