Results Will Come

Gaffer's confidence in Wolves' progress

Walter Zenga today expressed confidence that Wolves are heading in the right direction and are capable of putting a good run of results together to climb the Sky Bet Championship table.

In recent games Wolves have found themselves on the wrong side of the fine margins in some hard-fought encounters, but the Head Coach is confident that with the team continuing to gel and develop there are good times around the corner.

Wolves welcome Leeds United to Molineux tomorrow (3pm), seeking a win which could get them back within striking distance of the play-offs.

“One point from two games does not make us happy but we also have to evaluate how the team play,” says Zenga.

“In the last three games, including Norwich, we have played against three giant clubs, in my opinion.

“Norwich and Aston Villa came down from the Premier League and Brighton got 89 points in this division last season and only missed out on automatic promotion on goal difference.

“This year they are back in the top six.

“I don’t think we showed anything bad against three teams.

“We will look at it and discuss it because we only got one point but we did not get dominated by any team.

“It is difficult to go and play at Villa Park and Brighton but we had better possession and more shots.

“Do we prefer to play badly and win goals? I prefer to play football.

“Because I think that if we continue to play the right way and with the right mentality, and improve on some things, the results will come.

“Is the team working hard? Yes. Does the team have a good feeling? Yes. Does the team have a good relationship with the coach? I hope so!

“It is a squad in progress but we will continue to work.

“We are unhappy with the results.

“But if we don’t concede against Burton on 96 minutes, and we get a penalty against Villa, we could have four more points and we would be talking about promotion.

“I know a lot of football now is about guys at home who do not come in here every day and watch training and the matches.

“They just look at the result and see Wolves lose and that is it.

“We know we need to be in the standings around December and close to the play-offs and then we know what we have to do.”

And Zenga remains focused on keeping everything positive, to ensure the team head into tomorrow’s game in confident mood.

“The coach must give the team confidence and positive things,” he said.

“We look at the opponents and what they can do and we are also positive about our own players – it is all about the balance.

“The Leeds coach has experience in the Premier League with Swansea.

“He has had to build a new team, the same as I have, but he has experience in this country.

“It will be a difficult game.

“Leeds are a strong and aggressive team, in a good way, and we have respect for them.

“But we have to make our game and get the fans on our side and go for the win.

“We do have to fix our minds on the positive things.

“So often in football it is all about what people don’t like or what they think is wrong.

“If we keep thinking about only taking one point in the last four games then it is difficult to get the win.

“What we need to do is look forward, look at Leeds and think how we can win the game.

“And then do it!

“That gives us more of a chance to get a result.”

Zenga is expecting to be without Joe Mason again tomorrow, and Lee Evans is not yet available.
