Wolves will compete at Anfield, insists Nuno

Nuno Espirito Santo has praised the style of his title-chasing opponents as his Wolves side head into tomorrow afternoon’s final Premier League match of the season against Liverpool at Anfield.

Liverpool could secure the league title with victory over Nuno’s men on Sunday – that is as long as Manchester City fall to defeat against Brighton at the Amex.

Although aware of what is on the line for his opposite number in Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, Nuno insists his side will go into their final match of the campaign looking to compete as if it was any other game, despite Wolves already securing a seventh-place finish in the league.

On the occasion at Anfield on Sunday

“The players are aware of the game and they want to compete like they always do. It’s always been our idea in all of the games.

“What happens inside the pitch is what you can control, outside the pitch you cannot. Focus on inside the pitch.”

On the challenge of Liverpool

“It’s another game, another important game. It will be a tough challenge and even though it is the final game of the season we will want to compete as usual.

“Jurgen has been fantastic; absolutely fantastic. I like the team, I like the way they play and the intensity they put in their actions.

“It will be hard to find somebody who didn’t enjoy the game against Barcelona.”

On Liverpool’s front three of Salah, Firmino and Mane

“They have been very good, not only this season, but for all the seasons that they’ve been playing together.

“They are extremely good players. We will have to try to stop them as a team; organised, compact, running, covers – playing as a team.”

On what victory over Liverpool would mean

“We don’t think about [upsetting Liverpool fans], we prepare ourselves for the game like we always have during these last two years that I’ve been here.

“There has been no exception in any game, that we didn’t prepare the same way. It’s always the same, every time; the same details, the same approach – it didn’t change, so we’re not going to change for the last game of the season.

“We have to play and be focused. After that we will see what happens, we don’t go ahead.”

On finishing the season on a high

“We will come to compete. Our focus is always on our preparations, to play game and be focused on our tasks.

“The players rise for every game, every training session, every moment. That is our philosophy. To prepare ourselves for competition, to prepare ourselves for a big game, and we want to play it.”
