It’s Portsmouth up next at Molineux, as Wolves search for back-to-back wins, and here’s all you need to know pre-match.
Roll Call
Cesar Peixoto hopes to have Adam Armstrong back for the visit of Portsmouth. The striker missed the trip to Burnley with a minor back issue and on Friday the manager said he hopes to have his striker back on Tuesday. Peixoto made six changes at Turf Moor and hinted at more rotation amidst a busy fixture schedule. Raul Jimenez remains out long-term, while Boubacar Traore, Bertrand Traore and Rodrigo Gomes all missed the trip to Lancashire.
Portsmouth lost Colby Bishop in the warmup at Carrow Road on Saturday, with the striker feeling something in his knee which meant he didn’t feature. Keshi Anderson also faces a spell on the sidelines having torn his hamstring last week. Fellow forwards Josh Murphy, Franco Umeh, Thomas Waddington and Luke Brooke-Smith are also absent for a light Pompey side. John Swift, Benjamin Arthur, Conor Shaughnessy, Connor Ogilvie and Mark Kosznovszky also missed the trip to Norwich through injury.

The form guide
Wolves returned to form at Turf Moor with a much-needed victory on Friday night. After back-to-back defeats to Middlesbrough and Bolton Wanderers, a result was needed and Fer Lopez and Tawanda Chirewa did the business as Wolves came from behind to win. The Bolton reverse was the first at Molineux this season, and one week later Peixoto’s side will be looking to banish that memory with another game under the lights. Victory in this game in hand would lift Wolves to fifth.
Portsmouth arrive at Molineux in a good vein of form themselves, having won their last two. They were on the road at Norwich City on Saturday and won 1-0 thanks to a second half Marko Milovanovic penalty. Last Tuesday they were picking up three points on home soil, with Ebou Adams scoring a late winner in a 3-2 victory over Sheffield United. Of their five away games, Pompey have won two, also beating Lincoln City on the road back in August.

Sturridge pops up at Pompey
Wolves last beat Portsmouth in 2002, with a late winner at Fratton Park. Portsmouth manager Graham Rix was under pressure pre-match but was relieved to see his side the lead on 11 minutes through Nigel Quashie. Parity was restored within four minutes from Alex Rae, however. Nathan Blake then put the visitors ahead for the first time, but a fine Robert Prosinecki goal brought Pompey level again. The final laugh belonged to Wolves though, as Dean Sturridge lifted home the winner with six minutes remaining. The win put the Old Gold level with Manchester City at the top of the Championship.
Wolves boss Dave Jones said: “We fought hard and showed character.”
