Wolves Women striker and play-off final hero Charlotte Greengrass shares her matchday routine and superstitions.
First thing
I tend to get up and have a shower, so I'm fresh for the day, and then, depending on if it's home or away, I usually have similar, pre-match food, so I'll have two crumpets, and then I’ll have beans on toast. I tend to just chill around the house, watch Match of the Day normally, to try to get in the zone.
Food and drink
I'm not massively fussy with what I eat before a game, if it’s cold I like having something hot, but across the years, I’ve had various things, like pasta, rice pudding, but I don’t do that anymore so much. I’m not very fussy, but I think I’ve just fallen into that routine this year, and it seems to have worked.

Talking a good game
I lift-share with Becks [Anderson], Lino [Harkin], Simsy [Amy Sims] and Casey [Howe] from Nottingham, so we’ll chat in the car about the game, but we tend to talk more about what we’ve done during the week and weekend – probably try not to focus too much on football before we get to the game. When we get to the game, if it’s at home, we sit and have a chat with people like Robbo [Beth Roberts] and Amber [Hughes], Thommo [Bec Thomas] and Perks [Anna Price] sit with us as well. We don’t really talk about the game loads until we’re leading up to it, like half 12ish, but we just have a laugh, and I think that massively helps me to just relax at the same time.
On the headphones
I personally like listening to house and more upbeat music before a game, just to get me up for it, but in the car on the way in, if we’re feeling really chatty, we don’t listen to that much music. But if we do, I’m not massively fussy, so we always have a good time in the car. Me and Simsy are partial to a sing-along together, especially to Raye and anything like that, so we try to have fun.

Bus buddies
I tend to stay with my Nottingham crew, as well as Amber, Robbo and Thommo. We call the others ‘the younger ones’, but they’re not all younger, and they tend to sit together. Then, as the journey goes on, we tend to mingle more and just chat, catch up, and we have a good laugh on the bus. Abi Loydon is bound to be doing some sort of performance at some point, but it’s always really good fun on the bus. We don’t make that many journeys together, to be fair, so when we do it’s been really good fun.
At the ground
I’ll always drop my bag off, get accustomed to the changing room, especially if it’s somewhere new. The pitches are very varied in our league, so we’ll always go out to the pitch and see what’s cracking, which, again, tends to vary massively. I like to see what the pitch is like and then go back in the changing room and start to get in the zone.
Game mode
I’m a chatter. I like to just mingle and talk to everyone about everything and anything. It doesn't always have to be about football, but I like to be engaged with people. I’m not one that could just sit in the corner and get in the zone. Music helps me, and Robbo is the DJ, but we’ve got a mixed playlist that we’ve all contributed to. I enjoy listening to music in the changing room, having a little dance and just getting myself up for the game, but I definitely get in the zone by chatting – that’s my personality.

Post-match plans
When we’ve lost, we’re digesting what had gone wrong, but when we win, we do a lot of dancing and sock swinging. We tend to put the speaker on and have a real good dance. Usually have a bit of a shower debrief of how the game's gone and just have a bit of banter about how people have played. It’s always nice to get back into the changing room, especially this season with so many wins under our belt, and then go into the bar after, where I can keep chatting about the game with my favourite people.
Switching off
I always have a bit of a buzz after I’ve played, after a win or a loss. I do take losses a lot worse though, and wins are easier, as you can go home and watch the goals back and relish in the victory. But I take losing quite hard, I tend to just come home and get changed into something that isn’t our bright green training kit, watch a film in the evening and just wind down, and then hopefully get a good night’s sleep. I do quite enjoy going to work on Monday, especially when you’ve lost, because it helps you bounce back.
