Wolves and Burnley’s time in the Premier League will come to an end at Turf Moor on Sunday afternoon as the two teams go head-to-head in a battle for 19th position.
1 | Roll Call
The Old Gold head to Lancashire to close their latest eight-year spell in the top flight with an almost clean bill health. Matt Doherty missed out on a place in the squad for last weekend’s draw at home to Fulham through injury, and the Irishman will not be back for Sunday’s clash with the Clarets, while Sam Johnstone remains an injury absentee. Rob Edwards shifted to a back four last weekend, but it is yet to be seen if the head coach will stick to the same system and the same line-up which started against Fulham on the road.
Burnley enter their final game of the season without two of their key players, as Jordan Beyer (thigh) and Josh Cullen (knee) are both out of contention. Interim boss Mike Jackson will be waiting over the fitness of Maxime Esteve after the defender was forced off against Arsenal with a tight hamstring, while Connor Roberts played 45 minutes for the under-21s last week having spent the entirety of the season out with an Achilles problem.

3 | Journey to Sunday
Wolves’ 2025/26 campaign has been one of the club’s most disappointing in recent years, as the Old Gold’s relegation to the second tier was confirmed in April. Just two points from their opening 11 matches saw a change of head coach, with Rob Edwards coming in and earning another 17 – including wins over West Ham United, Aston Villa and Liverpool, as well as recent home draws at home to Sunderland and Fulham – but not enough to push the team out of the bottom three.
Burnley’s relegation was also confirmed last month, as the Clarets became the fourth team in Premier League history to drop out of the competition at least five times. The Lancashire outfit have four top flight wins this campaign, having picked up wins over Sunderland, Leeds United and Crystal Palace, as well as claiming three points in the reverse fixture at Molineux. Sunday’s hosts have only earned one point from their last seven outings.
4 | A rare PL win at Turf Moor
Wolves’ only previous Premier League victory away at Burnley came all the way back in the Old Gold’s return to the top flight in 2009/10.
Mick McCarthy’s men gave their survival hopes a big boost with a 2-1 victory, courtesy of a goal from Matt Jarvis, before Adlene Guedioura’s strike took a big deflection off Clarke Carlisle.
The Wolves supporters celebrated wildly at the final whistle and with good reason, as the result not only bolstered their own position, but delivered a serious blow to one of their closest rivals in the battle to avoid relegation.
