Wolves (2009–2012)
Malone joined the Wolves Academy at the age of nine, before signing his first professional contract aged 18. During the 2009/10 season, he won the Wolves Academy Player of the Year award, but never went on to make a senior appearance for the team.
Ujpest (2009 - loan)
After signing his first contract at Wolves, Malone immediately left on loan to join Hungarian outfit Ujpest, a partner club of the gold and black. He played a total of eight times for the side, in a six-month spell, scoring his first professional goal, against Budapest Honved, and helping them reach the UEFA Europa League.
Southend United (2009-2010 - loan)
Upon returning to England, Malone left Molineux to join Southend United on a loan deal that was eventually extended until the end of the season. At Roots Hall, Malone managed to rack up 17 appearances in League One, but he was unable to prevent the side from suffering a disappointing relegation to the fourth tier.
Burton Albion (2010-2011 - loan)
Just like Southend, Malone also dropped down a division for the 2010/11 season, as he joined League Two side Burton Albion on a one-month deal. He won the Man of the Match award on his debut for the club, and an impressive start to life for the Brewers earned him a deal until the end of the season. He netted his first ever goal in English senior football in a 1-1 draw with, coincidentally, Southend, and after 22 league appearances that season, Wolves decided to loan Malone to Bournemouth, before the left-back joined The Cherries on a permanent deal.
AFC Bournemouth (2011-2012)
As mentioned, Malone initially moved to the south coast on a six-month loan, but after scoring three goals in three games during that time, manager Lee Bradbury decided to sign the Englishman on a three-and-a-half year contract. Malone became a regular in the side after being sidelined through injury, and on his return to fitness, he scored once and provided one assist in a 2-0 victory over Exeter City. With five goals in 32 league games, Malone left the club after just one season.
Millwall (2012-2015)
Included in a swap deal with Josh McQuoid, Malone joined Millwall, and to date it’s the club he’s made the most appearances for. With 68 games played in his first spell, the left-back established himself as a regular in 2013/14, finishing second in the club’s end of season Player of the Year award. The following campaign, Malone struggled with several minor injuries once more, but managed to reassert his place in the side by the end of the calendar year. However, once a bid came in from Cardiff City, Millwall couldn’t turn it down.
Cardiff City (2015-2016)
Moving out of England for the second time in his career, Malone joined the Bluebirds halfway through the 2014/15 season, despite reported surprise interest from Borussia Dortmund, and made 13 appearances in the back-end of the season. In his only full season in Wales, Malone managed a full year without injury issues, playing 41 times as Cardiff finished eighth in the Championship.
Fulham (2016-2017)
The left-back then moved to Craven Cottage in a swap deal with Jazz Richards in 2016, and made 36 league appearances, scoring an impressive six goals, as Fulham succumbed to play-off semi-final defeat.
Huddersfield Town (2017-2018 - loan)
Malone’s excellent spell in West London prompted newly promoted Huddersfield Town to hand him his first ever taste of Premier League football. In his one and only season of English top-flight football, Malone helped the Terriers to a shock 16th-place finish in their first ever Premier League season, making 22 appearances in the division.
Derby County (2018-2021)
Malone’s Premier League adventure was short but sweet as he moved back down to the Championship with Derby County. He signed a three-year deal at Pride Park in 2018, although he rejoined Millwall on loan for the 2020/21 campaign. His contract at Derby expired in 2021.
Millwall (2020-present)
During his loan spell in 2020/21, Malone played 41 games, scoring five goals and assisting three for the club, before he joined permanently following the expiration of his Derby contract this summer.
