Home and Away | Daniel Podence

In the latest edition of Home and Away, Wolves winger Daniel Podence reveals six football stadiums which have defined his career.

DEBUT GROUND

Estadio Jose Alvalade

It was with Sporting at Jose Alvalade. It was a big moment for me because it had been my club since I was 10-years-old. Sporting are one of the biggest clubs in Portugal and the stadium was always full with 40,000 people in there, so it was a huge moment for me to play there for the first time.

WOLVES HOME DEBUT

Molineux

It was very different environment to what I was used to because here in England, the stadiums are very different to other countries in the world, especially the atmosphere and the crowd – they’re always singing and so all of the things that the people usually do here. Also, the flames and the fireworks in the stadium is not something I was used to, but I felt very warm and it was very nice.

FAVOURITE GROUND

Karaiskaki Stadium

I would say the Olympiacos stadium in Greece because it was one of the best environments that I’ve ever felt, and it was so fantastic to be in the middle of that atmosphere.

MOST DIFFICULT GROUND

Karaiskaki Stadium

Even though we were playing at home, it was very difficult even for us because the noise of the crowd was so loud that the players couldn’t hear what we were saying on the pitch. The noise sometimes got so much that we would have headaches!

BIGGEST GROUND PLAYED AT

Allianz Arena

At Bayern Munich because the stadium is so big, and their team is unbelievable. They play such good football and their supporters are very nice for their players, but that made it very difficult for us in every way.

GROUND OF MOST IMPORTANT GAME

Estadio Algarve

My career is only just starting, so I’ve only had a few important games that would be huge for me, but I think when I played for Moreirense against Benfica and Braga in the semi-final and final of the League Cup. I was playing for a small team, but we won the cup against two of the biggest teams in Portugal, which for me was unbelievable. It was at the beginning of my career and it gave me a big step for the future. But I hope I will have many more important games still to come.
