Wolves will celebrate the 50-year anniversary of the club’s historic League Cup victory over Manchester City during this weekend’s Molineux fixture with Fulham.
Saturday’s Premier League clash is the closest Old Gold fixture to the anniversary of the club’s 2-1 victory at Wembley – the first time Wolves lifted the League Cup trophy.
Some of the heroes from that day 50 years ago, including Geoff Palmer and John McAlle, will return to Molineux on Saturday, being welcomed on to the pitch at half-time as supporters are given the opportunity to show their appreciation to some Old Gold legends.
To mark the occasion, a souvenir edition of the matchday programme will be on sale in and around Molineux, packed with exclusive interviews and never-before-heard insights into one of the most celebrated victories in the club’s history.
The match winner John Richards, who is sadly unavailable to attend, begins the written celebrations in Saturday’s programme with a special column, while the memories of Kenny Hibbitt, Phil Parkes and Gary Pierce amongst others also contribute to 23 pages of 1974 content.
Hibbitt himself will also be at Molineux on Saturday and supporters have the opportunity to meet the man himself in person, as he is the special guest for the Matchday Museum Experience.
Tickets are available by clicking here and will give supporters the chance to visit the Wolves Museum in the presence of Hibbitt, before the Old Gold legend takes part in a 30-minute question and answer session before kick-off.
A guided tour of the Wolves Museum with the club historian, celebrating the club’s rich history, food and a match ticket to the Fulham clash are also included in the Matchday Museum Experience.
In the lead up to the day, supporters can hear from a selection of legends, as well as Tommy Doyle, whose two grandads were in the opposition that day, on Wednesday’s episode of Wolves Express, as the countdown to Saturday’s 1974 celebrations begin.
