Voice pens first professional contract

Young defender Caden Voice has put pen-to-paper on his first professional contract with Wolves.

The 17-year-old, who signed a scholarship in the summer, has been rewarded following a journey through the academy which started in the pre-academy phase when he was aged just five.

Having risen through the ranks at Compton Park, Voice is now a regular performer for the under-18s and also has experience at under-21 level.

Academy manager for football, Jon Hunter-Barrett, has expressed his delight at seeing another local talent secure his future in Old Gold following a lengthy ride through the system.

“I’m delighted to be in a position to give Caden his first professional contract with Wolves,” Hunter-Barrett said. “He’s a Wolves supporter, has been at the academy since the age of five and has worked very hard to be given this contract and have this opportunity with the football club.

“He’s had quite a long journey right the way through the programme and has been with the football club for 11 years if you include his time between five and seven in the pre-academy. He has shown great commitment to the club throughout that period of time.

“Caden has been able to represent the under-18s as a 15-year-old and has also, at times, gone on to wear the armband for the 18s. He’s represented the under-21s already this season, so Caden’s had quite a good journey throughout the programme.”

Hunter-Barrett has pinpointed Voice’s key strengths as both a person and player, while explaining what he hopes to see from the central defender as he continues his progression and development in the coming months.

“Caden is committed to the cause and making sure he squeezes absolutely everything possible from every opportunity he’s given. He trains with great intensity and detail, his attitude off the pitch has been terrific – in terms of his approach to his education, player care sessions, gym work and his analysis too. Caden’s all-round major strength is his perseverance to become successful.

“On the pitch, his technical attributes on the ball to help the team in build-up and to play through is excellent.

“I’m hoping to see Caden continue his consistency within his performances, in making the right decisions, his defending, his work ethic and his attitude. Just like with anyone, I’m sure opportunities will arise for him.”
