Biography

Goalkeeper Dan Bentley stepped up to the Premier League for the first time when he joined Wolves in January 2023, after making more than 400 appearances in the Football League.

Formerly of Southend United and Brentford, the ex-Bristol City captain brought a wealth of experience to Molineux, having spent the past six seasons attracting plaudits in the Championship.

A career in the senior game began with Southend in 2009 for the stopper, who made his debut at 18 for the Shrimps and never looked back, gaining a reputation as a fine penalty stopper – he’s kept out 13 spot kicks in his career.

Bentley’s only promotion to date came via that method, as he saved two Wembley penalties to help Southend into League One, earning him a place in the division’s Team of the Season and beginning his upward trajectory in the game.

A move to Brentford brought about second tier football in 2016 and the goalkeeper missed just two games in his opening two campaigns in the capital, keeping 28 clean sheets during that period.

A reliable and influential figure both on and off the pitch, Bentley’s form continued at Ashton Gate, where he was number one for three seasons and served as club captain, so too the start of the 2022/23 season, before he moved to Molineux.
