Women's Report | Wolves 1-4 Nottingham Forest

Wolves Women's incredible 798 day home league unbeaten run came to an end after defeat to Nottingham Forest in WSL 2.

Goals from Leticia McKenna, Tuva Espås and Freya Thomas saw the away side storm to victory.

A late goal from Louanne Worsey would not be enough for the Old Gold as they were unable to carry on the momentum from last week’s victory against Bristol City, leaving them in eighth place in the WSL 2.

The game instantly sprang into action as Yana Daniëls’ headed flick-on found the path of Melissa Lawley, who drove forward into space before her guided effort was saved at full stretch by Katie Cox, a save that would injure the Reds shot-stopper and see her replaced by Emily Batty soon after.

In the 4th minute the visitors almost saw themselves in front, as Chloe Mustaki’s corner eventually found the head of Hannah Coan, whose attempt would be denied by the crossbar.

Forest’s continued momentum would be rewarded in the 24th minute, as Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah found winger McKenna in space, with the Australian finishing coolly into the bottom corner.

However, the Old Gold would come close just a minute later as Lawley’s mazy run infield left her face-to-face with goalkeeper Batty, who prevented the effort smartly with an outstretched leg.

The rest of the first period would consist of a scrappy affair, before Forest captain Georgia Brougham’s ambitious mishit volley at the end of stoppage time brought a combative first half to a close.

Half-Time | Wolves 0-1 Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest would start the second half in style as Espås doubled their lead in the 52nd minute following a clever team move, with the striker bundling the ball into an open net.

The Norwegian would add a third for Forest and another to her tally just two minutes later as she used her strength to latch onto a loose ball, before sliding the ball beneath Emily Orman.

The away side would add a fourth goal in the 66th minute, with substitute Cerys Brown keeping Rachel Rowe’s cross alive, before Freya Thomas found the bottom corner.

Substitute Olivia Francis almost pegged one back for the hosts in the 77th minute, as her first effort on goal was stopped by Batty before her follow-up brushed the side netting.

Wolves would find a goal in the 84th minute after a deflected Melissa Filis cross fell to Worsey’s feet, who took a touch before firing home in style to add a consolation for Dan McNamara’s side.
