Women's Report | Wolves 0-6 Brighton & Hove Albion

Wolves 0  Brighton & Hove Albion 6 (Hayes 4, Tvedten 45, Joromo 47, Warren 49, Murphy 66, Mpome 88)

Wolves Women fell to a 6-0 defeat against WSL side Brighton & Hove Albion in the Subway Players’ Cup at the SEAH Stadium.

After a spirited first half performance from the Old Gold, the quality and division difference of the visitors began to show as the game progressed, with the away side dominating possession.

The opening stages of the game started with the visitors in control of possession as they broke the deadlock in the fourth minute through Hayes, who looped her header over Alex Brooks into the back of the net.

Despite Brighton dominating the ball, Wolves remained disciplined in their approach and broke down the right through Amy Sims, whose delivery was smothered by Melina Loeck.

However, the Seagulls continued to threaten as a fantastic cross into the box from Emily Murphy found an unmarked Caitlin Hayes, who rattled the crossbar with a powerful header just after the half-hour mark.

Just before the break, Brighton were able to double their lead as Olauga Tvedten received the ball on the left-hand side before finding the top corner with her right-footed strike.

The second goal just before half-time looked to prove pivotal heading into the second half as within five minutes of the second half, the WSL side added a third and fourth goal to their tally through the close range efforts from Joramo and Warren.

The Wanderers continued to battle and push forwards as they worked the ball into promising positions - but the Seagulls extended their lead further from the penalty spot in the 66th minute through Murphy after Tvedten was fouled inside the area.

Despite the deficit, the hosts remained resilient as Louanne Worsey sent a set-piece into the Brighton penalty area, which narrowly evaded the touch of substitute Amber Hughes and rolled into the grasp of Melina Loeck.

However, the Seagulls were able to add a sixth goal as Manuela Vanegas delivered into the box to find Maelys Mpome, who headed into the bottom right-hand corner.

In injury time, the Old Gold had an opportunity for a consolation as Mel Filis was sent through on goal, but saw her shot under pressure go over the crossbar.

Wolves will look to bounce back on Sunday at the SEAH Stadium as they face Bristol City in the Subway Players’ Cup.
