Wolves Women began life in WSL2 with a 2-0 defeat against Newcastle United in front of the Gateshead International Stadium.
Early goals from Beth Lumsden and an own goal from Georgia Marshall gave the Magpies a victory as Dan McNamara's side looked to find a way back into the game.
It was a dominant start from the hosts who opened the scoring in the eighth minute as Lumsden was played through on goal and was able to poke the ball past Emily Orman.
Wolves did respond well as Charlotte Greengrass held the ball up before playing in Melissa Lawley, who could only shoot straight at Anna Tamminen.
However, the Magpies soon doubled the lead in the 18th minute as Lumsden played the ball across towards Mollie Lambert, who shot straight at Orman before a ricochet found the path of the retreating Marshall, who unfortunately diverted the ball into the goal.
The Old Gold did grow into the first half after the second goal and began to push up the pitch, which led to several crosses delivered into the penalty area as the search for the first goal in WSL2 continued heading into the break.

Newcastle continued to take control in the early stages of the second half and had a chance through Lambert, who was played in on the left before curling her shot straight at Orman.
Whilst the tempo of the game dropped, Wolves were able to push forward and create two opportunities of their own with long ranged efforts from Chloe Williams and Hollie Olding, as the latter was able to draw a save from Tamminen.
Despite spells of pressure from the Old Gold, the Magpies continued to control possession of the ball heading into the closing stages.
Just before the final whistle, a cross into the area looked found an unmarked Amber Hughes at the back post, who could only volley her effort from close range straight into the gloves of the Newcastle goalkeeper.
