125 days on from Charlotte Greengrass netting the biggest goal in Wolves Women history to secure promotion, the Old Gold will step out at the Gateshead International Stadium to begin their WSL 2 journey against title favourites Newcastle United.
An achievement that has been eight years in the making for manager Dan McNamara, Wolves have been handed one of the toughest possible starts against the side who are tipped to win the league this season, but will head to the North East with positive momentum from last season.
Wolves have made 11 summer signings, bring in the likes of Jas Matthews, Yana Daniëls and Melissa Lawley - all with WSL experience - as well goalkeeper Emily Orman on loan from London City Lionesses and Ireland international Tara O'Hanlon from champions Manchester City, while also retaining 14 players from last season's promotion winning side.
The Opposition
A side who have been on an upward trajectory since their double promotion in 2023 and 2024, Newcastle are a side with top-tier ambitions. Recruitment this summer has reflected their plans with the signings of forwards Martha Thomas and Kathleen McGovern, goalkeeper Kayla Rendell and defender Hanna Nemeth amongst their transfer business.

The team finished 6th in the WSL 2 last time out, winning 8 of their 22 matches but losing just five.
The Venue
With a capacity of 11,800, Newcastle currently play their home matches at Gateshead International Stadium. Home of National League side Gateshead, Newcastle averaged a crowd of around 1,500.

Wolves will be in an all Old-Gold strip for this fixture, with gold shirt, shorts and socks. The goalkeeper will be in the green strip.

It is expected to be a warm day on Tyneside, with cloudy and sunny spells.
