Women's Report | Wolves 0-1 Nottingham Forest

Wolves 0 Nottingham Forest 1 (Shooter 17)

Wolves Women fell to a 1-0 defeat against Nottingham Forest in a pre-season friendly at the SEAH Stadium.

A simple finish from Lois Shooter just 17 minutes into the game ensured defeat for the Old Gold against their Midlands neighbours in a closely contested pre-season battle in preparation for the upcoming Women’s Super League 2 campaign.

The first quarter of an hour was a cagey start for both teams, with half chances for both teams including a Charlotte Greengrass effort going wide after an over-the-top through-ball.

Forest broke the deadlock on the 17th minute when Deanne Rose was sent through and goal and found Lois Shooter at the back post for a simple side-footed tap-in to hand the visitors the lead.

Just minutes before the break, Becky Anderson had enough space and time on the edge of the box to have a shooting opportunity which was comfortably saved by Georgie Ferguson.

Half-time: Wolves 0-1 Nottingham Forest

Forest dominated the possession for the first 20 minutes of the second half but were unable to manage any clear-cut chances as resilient defending kept Wolves in the game.

Amber Hughes was played through on goal after a turnover of the ball high up the pitch but was unable to convert her effort on goal as she saw the ball go narrowly wide.

Dan McNamara was trying to fire up his team to find an equaliser in the last portion of the game, with Wolves having much more possession and half-chances which were unable to be converted.

Olivia Francis found Hughes on the end of a curling cross on the edge of the six-yard box, but she was unable to head home, and her effort was caught by Ferguson

There are several positives McNamara will be taking from the fixture and their preparations continue next Thursday when they face Wrexham away from home.
