Women's report | Wolves 8-0 Stourbridge

Wolves 8 (J. Cross 6, 49, 52, Hughes 13, 45+2, Roberts 40, Bramford 44, Morphet 88) Stourbridge 0

Wolves demolished local rivals Stourbridge to book their place in the second round of the Women's FA Cup at the New Bucks Head.

Hat-trick hero Jade Cross broke the deadlock within the opening 10 minutes before Amber Hughes doubled the lead three minutes later.

A three-goal flurry in the final five minutes of the first half from Beth Roberts, Sophie Bramford and Hughes meant Wolves went in five goals to the good at the break.

A quickfire double from Cross in the opening minutes of the second period completed her treble before captain Anna Morphet added an eighth late on to confirm a comfortable victory.

Wolves started bright and came close to the opener within the opening three minutes as Hughes cut inside and drove into the box. The forward released a goalward effort, but it was parried out for a corner by Jamie-Lee Bamford.

The Old Gold broke the deadlock three minutes later as Hannah Fryer picked the ball at the back post. The defender squared it to Cross in the middle of the box, who poked home from close range.

Dan McNamara's side got a second within the opening 15 minutes. Roberts was the creator as she stood up a beautiful cross into Hughes, who flicked home from a tight angle.

Hughes was in the thick of the action once again just after the 20-minute mark as her powerful effort from the edge of the box rattled the crossbar, but the ball went over.

Eight minutes later, the Glassgirls had their first effort on goal as Niamh Deasy ran through a crowd of bodies before releasing a shot, but Bec Thomas got down and claimed.

Hughes was played through on goal on the half-hour mark before she spun a defender in the box and released an effort straight down the middle, which Lee-Bamford parried away for a corner.

Wolves got their third in the 41st minute through Roberts, who looked to have played a low cross into the box, but her effort managed to curl into the bottom corner of the far post.

Bramford extended the Old Gold’s lead to four with just a minute of the first period remaining as she picked up a through ball and beat the Stourbridge high line to place it into the back of the net.

In added time of the first half, Hughes got her second of the afternoon after she headed home from Morphet's free-kick.

Half-time | Wolves 5-0 Stourbridge

The Old Gold got their sixth within the opening five minutes of the second half after some excellent build-up play.

The ball arrived at Fryer's feet out wide before playing in a low hard cross into the centre of the box for Cross to tap home from close range.

Two minutes later, Cross completed her hat-trick with a carbon copy of her previous goal as she managed to find the back of the net from another low cross in by Fryer.

Stourbridge went close to pulling one back just past the hour mark through Jade Grove. The substitute released a shot from the edge of the box, but the goalward effort was blazed over the bar.

There was a long pause in play in the final 20 minutes as Esme Moran received treatment for Stourbridge. However, the break didn't stop Morphet from making it eight in the final minutes through a stunning strike from distance, which curled into the top corner.
