Hard Fought Draw

Wolves held by determined Solihull

Solihull Ladies 0

Wolves Women 0

It was a frustrating day for Wolves Women as they were held to a goalless draw by a determined Solihull Ladies side at Hampton FC.

With the sides testing each other, it took until the 14th minute for the first real chance of the game which fell to Solihull, but the shot from outside the box went wide.

They had another opportunity from a corner 10 minutes later, but it was well saved by Chloe Evans in the Wolves’ goal.

Wolves’ first real chance came in the 32nd minute with a free kick from Jen Anslow 20 yards out, but her shot went just over the bar.

With half time approaching Emma Cross sent a ball into the area, which Andrea Whetton headed straight at the keeper and the half finished goalless.

Manager Tim Dudding made a change at the break, with Jade Hewitt making way for Sophie Richards as the visitors looked to get on the scoresheet.

It was Solihull though who had the first chance of the second half in the 48th minute after a corner ball hit the post, but Wolves managed to clear from a goalmouth scramble.

Solihull continued to press, with Claire Hakeman forced to clear off the line in the 54th minute before keeper Evans found herself one-on-one with an advancing striker, only for the shot to go wide.

With the game ebbing to and fro, now it was Wolves’ turn to put on the pressure and in the 76th minute Hakeman’s through ball found Jade Cross, pictured, who chipped the defender, but her volleyed shot skimmed the bar.

With Wolves chasing the three points, a Jen Anslow corner caused confusion in the Solihull box, but the ball was scrambled clear, and both sides had to settle for a hard-earned draw.

Manager Tim Dudding said: “It was a frustrating day for us today against a very organised and determined team.

“We didn’t play to the best of our ability and our substandard performance left us disappointed in coming away with only a point.

“We look to re-evaluate, regroup and improve as we prepare for next week’s cup game. Learning and improving is everything.”
