Wolves bring in Shabani

Wolves have secured the signing of Bayern Munich midfielder Meritan Shabani to join the club’s under-23 team.

The attacking midfielder has signed a three-year contract at Molineux and will join Rob Edwards’ group initially.

Shabani is a product of the world-famous Bayern Academy system, having risen through the system over the past 13 years to reach the first-team.

The 20-year-old made his debut for the German giants in April 2018 in a 4-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt and featured against the same opposition in the Bundesliga last season.

The German is usually used in an attacking role in the midfield, but also has experience of playing for Bayern Munich II.

On the deal, Wolves sporting director Kevin Thelwell said: “He’s a player we’ve been watching for a long time. He’s been playing for Bayern Munich’s younger teams for a while and our scouting teams have been watching him regularly.

“He’s a really talented individual, who is very excited. He has huge potential to assist and score goals, and very pleasing on the eye in terms of his movement.

“When we met him for the first time, we knew he was going to fit right in, he’s very humble, a very hard-working kid and we’re glad to have him in the building as a Wolves player.

“He’ll start with Rob Edwards in the under-23s, but as we know here at Wolves, Nuno is keen to work with talented young players, and they get the opportunity to train with the first-team regularly.

“I’m sure Meritan will be no different, then it’s down to him to prove he’s very capable. When Nuno has the chance to see him live, he’ll realise the ability he’s got and I’m sure he’ll have a good opportunity here.”

After making the move from Bayern, Shabani added: “I’m delighted to finally be a Wolves player, the project here is one that excited me and I’m grateful to have this opportunity to impress.

“The facilities are at a very high standard and this is a fantastic chance for me to develop as a footballer, in a new environment which will provide new experiences.”
