Suspension For Defender

Wolves can confirm that defender Connor Johnson has received a two-match suspension from the FA for having featured in a Checkatrade Trophy fixture last season for which he was ineligible.

Johnson was booked in the Checkatrade group fixture with Chesterfield and then again in the second round tie with Sunderland, which meant a one-match suspension would apply in the Club’s next Checkatrade trophy fixture.  Unfortunately Johnson played in the subsequent defeat in the last 16 at Swansea in January 2017.

With new disciplinary rules for this competition having been introduced at the start of the 2016/17 season, there was a misunderstanding over the suspension which also wasn’t flagged up via the normal FA administration process for first team, Under-23 and Under-18 fixtures.

However, Wolves take full responsibility for the error and accept the punishment.

The club has been fined £1,500 and Johnson, currently on loan with AFC Telford, will now serve a three match suspension to include an additional match following his sending off for the Bucks against Harrogate last Saturday.
