Kilman | 'I'm pleased for Costa'

Maximilian Kilman has praised the positive influence of Diego Costa, on and off the pitch, after the striker scored his first Wolves goal against Brentford.

The defender once again captained the old gold to victory over the Bees, thanks to Costa’s opener and a second from Hwang Hee-Chan who came off the bench to clinch the win. Despite admitting that the three points meant a lot to Julen Lopetegui’s side, Kilman is keeping his feet on the ground ahead of next weekend’s visit to Leicester City and has urged his teammates to keep pushing on.

On another important three points

“That meant a lot for us. Our plan was to build from last week and we did that. We showed the same kind of spirit and determination and we got the result in the end.

“Brentford are a top side. They’ve done so well this season and to get a result against them feels amazing.”

On Diego Costa scoring his first goal

“I’m pleased for him. Since he’s come in he’s been fantastic for the training room, fantastic with the boys and deserved today’s goal.

“You can see how quality of a player he is. When he came in he needed to work on his fitness and he’s got it. Now he’s really fit, he’s firing and it’s great for him.

“He was brilliant today. He worked his socks off off the ball, had his one moment of magic and scored.

“When I was a kid I used to watch him at Chelsea and he was a fantastic player. Now to be playing with him, he’s still got it. He’s got a bit older but he still works his socks off and he scored the goal today.”

On keeping back-to-back clean sheets

“That’s what we build our foundations off, keeping clean sheets. We’ve not done that so well this season, but the last two games we’ve picked up another clean sheet and won the game in the end.

“I have to keep my concentration throughout the whole game and luckily I got the block (against Ivan Toney) and the clean sheet.”

On Matheus Nunes’ influence and assist

“His run today was unbelievable and he was phenomenal the whole game. Same as everyone today, everyone gave 110% and that’s why we won the game.”

On striving for more

“We’re not safe yet. We’ve still got a few more and need to keep going. There’s seven more games so we really need to push on and do the best we can.

“We need to go game-by-game and hopefully at the end of the season we’ll be in a good position.”

On facing Leicester next week

“It’s a massive game. Leicester have not been doing so well this season but they’re still a great side and they’re just waiting for that momentum to build. We need to stop that and it’s going to be a really tough game.”
